Getting started
Do I need a referral?
No. You can get started without one.
Who can join?
Adults 18 and over who are in Ontario at the time of their visits. It isn't offered during pregnancy or breastfeeding, and it's open to adults of any gender. Is this for me?
What does the assessment ask?
Your health history, what you've already tried, your medications, your day and what you want help with. Have a list of your current medications handy if you can. How it works
Does the first form ask about my weight?
No. The first step is only how to reach you: your name, a phone number or email, and a box to confirm you're 18 or older and in Ontario. Your history and measurements come later, with your Nurse Practitioner.
Do I have to go anywhere in person?
Usually only to the lab. Your visits are by video, from home, anywhere in Ontario, and blood work is at a lab near you.
How long does it take to get going?
It moves at the pace of your own care, not a countdown. You answer the assessment in your own time, then a person from our team sets up your video visit, then your labs. Your plan is written once your NP has your results.
What is the free call?
A chance to say it to a person first. Someone from our team sets it up with you, and you can ask anything before you decide.
I'm already on a prescription. Can I still start?
Yes, you can get started. Tell your Nurse Practitioner what you're taking and how it's going, and they'll go through it with you like the rest of your history. More on joining when you're already on treatment.
Treatment
Will I definitely get a prescription?
No. Prescription treatment is offered only if your clinician decides it's appropriate and safe for you, and only if you want it. The rest of the program helps either way.
Who is prescription treatment for?
Prescription treatment is generally considered for adults with a BMI of 30 or more, or 27 or more with a weight-related health condition. Your clinician makes the final decision. Who it's for · BMI calculator
Is the program only about medication?
No. Assessment, lab work, a written plan, nutrition and habit support and ongoing check-ins are the program, and medication is one possible part of it.
Will you tell me about side effects?
Yes, before you decide anything. Benefits and side effects come first, and check-ins keep asking how you feel. Safety and monitoring
What if treatment stops later?
You'll have a plan for that from the start. It covers the routines that keep working for you, and what happens if or when treatment changes or stops, decided together at check-ins that keep going. After treatment
Your clinician
Can a Nurse Practitioner prescribe weight loss treatment in Ontario?
Yes. Nurse Practitioners in Ontario are authorized to diagnose, order and interpret tests and prescribe; your NP decides whether prescription treatment is appropriate for you.
How do I check who my clinician is?
Look them up on the College of Nurses of Ontario's public register.
Will I see the same person each time?
Your Nurse Practitioner leads your care throughout. Some check-ins are with the wider care team.
Privacy
Is my information private?
Yes. Your health information is used for your care and handled under Ontario's health privacy law. You can ask what we hold and who has seen it.
Will anyone weigh me on camera?
No. No lectures, no weigh-ins on camera. You decide what you share, and when.
If it's not a fit
What happens if the program isn't right for me?
Your clinician tells you why, in plain words, and what they suggest instead, including a referral if you need one. You won't leave with nothing. If it's not a fit
Who isn't it for?
Anyone under 18; anyone pregnant, breastfeeding or planning a pregnancy; anyone outside Ontario at the time of their visits.
